England Squash and Racketball, the Governing Body, last year launched The Grassroots Development Fund inviting County Associations to bid for up to £3000 in matched funding to promote the sports throughout the country.

The programmes will initially take place at 4 venues across the County and will involve children from the age of 5 –16 years old. It will be delivered in schools and squash clubs by England Squash and Racketball Licenced Coaches and will be for a period of 6 weeks. This will be followed by further sessions for which a small fee will be charged to participants.

The programme was launched with Racketball at Little Lever High School on the 2 newly refurbished squash courts with 6 enthuiastic  12 year olds having a fun filled, hour long session today, 26th February.

It will continue next Wednesday with children from the adjacent Bowness Primary School taking to the courts for Mini Squash, a game developed to teach 5-11 year olds the basics of squash but most of all an excuse for having fun in sport.

With the concerns over the increasing levels of obesity in children, this is an excellent opportunity for them to enjoy exercise in a safe and controlled environment as well as learning new skills and most of all having lots of fun.
