As many of you know I am a BIG supporter of charity.
Having served in the HM Forces for over 30 years, supported St Catherine's Hospice for ten years up until 2010, and since then a number of other charities in the local community, I recently met the "HEARTBEAT" charity and said I would support them for the next few years.
They are presently located in Harris Park off Garstang Road in Preston. Next month they are moving into the old Preston North End FC Museum.
On Sunday 19th October we are holding a 1 mile fun run on the squash courts at Leyland Leisure Centre, both of which are glass backed, in support of Heartbeat.
On one court will be kids aged 7 - 15 years, on the other, adults.
The event will be divided into 30 minute sessions, five persons per court per session, (total places available per court during the day - 65).
It's not a race, purely a "FUN Race".
It's the first time any squash club in Lancashire has held an event like this.
I have managed to get Costa Coffee to sponsor the event and Helen Clitheroe, the GB runner, has kindly agreed to come down and open the event. Leyland Leisure Centre have kindly given us the courts free for the event.
Before the schools broke up for summer holidays I was invited in to speak to Year 10 pupils at Brownedge St Mary's Sports College. They are coming down to assist us, as volunteers, with the recording of the lengths (165).
The closing date for entries is Sunday 28th September.
We will be holding a photocall on court on Tuesday 2nd September, following that I will be sending out a press release.
If you would like to enter please email me.
